Joanne Hamilton's decision to return to school in her 40s to pursue her degree entailed some challenges. Attending Nipissing with her son, Justin, however, offered some advantages, like advice on research and navigating classes. The opportunity to graduate together was pretty sweet for this mother-son team as well. Al Carfagnini carved out a 38-year career at Nipissing. Beginning as a student in 1972, he became the school’s first liaison officer a few years later. He retired last spring from his latest role as Associate Vice-President Student Development and International to concentrate on family and fishing.
